Building Addition

Rockville, MD

8,000 s.f. addition
$4.8 million project with $1.8 million of MEP work.
Addition of entire 3rd floor and mechanical penthouse while maintaining building operation.

 

The project was an 8,000 square foot addition to an existing 18,000 square foot communications center. Scope also included an upgrade of the mechanical and electrical systems. The MEP work included the following upgrades to the existing building systems.

Two 50,000 cfm chilled water AHU’s
250-ton chiller plant.
New 3,000 amp 208V main electric service
1,000 KW stand-by generator
New fire alarm system including complete VESDA detection system.

Key features of the MEP systems include; new fire alarm system, redundant HVAC systems, new DDC building control system to control the new equipment and the remaining 8- tons of Dx equipment and reconfiguration and expansion of the entire electrical distribution system.

All infrastructure work was designed to maintain 24x7 operation of the facility. Design and construction employed a multiphased approach in order to maintain the operation and also accelerate the construction process.
