Statement of Qualifications

Matt Bowers and Tom Igo founded DesignTech in 2000. Our firm is dedicated to furnishing our clients with creative design solutions for facility mechanical and electrical systems. We provide design schemes that meet present and future needs and are accomplished within budget. Our focus on listening to client’s concerns and servicing client needs during both the design and construction phases has allowed us to develop a client base that continues to rely on our services.

The Principals of the firm each have over 20 years of engineering and project management experience. This level of experience enables us to incorporate appropriate solutions to complex design problems. Mr. Igo and Mr. Bowers participate directly in all aspects of design and construction administration and maintain client contact in order to insure that project completion is on schedule and that the design solutions meet all of the client’s quality standards and budget criteria.

The firm's clients include architects, facility owners, contractors and construction managers. We have completed designs for projects with construction costs ranging from $50,000 to over $2,000,000 for mechanical and electrical installation. Work completed and under design for 2002 exceeded $25,000,000 in mechanical and electrical construction costs.

Our firm consists of four mechanical engineers, two mechanical designers and three electrical engineers, two electrical designers, a plumbing engineer and a cad technician. We are growing and expect to increase the staff as our workload continues to increase.

The focus of our work is providing designs for facility infrastructure upgrades, building additions, and renovation projects. Representative clients include companies in the telecommunications and broadcasting fields as well as other industries with critical infrastructure requirements. Projects include building expansions, chiller plants, energy retrofits, boiler plants, chiller plants, electrical service upgrades, generator installations, and complete HVAC system upgrades. Designs for these projects typically include provisions to allow new system installation with uninterrupted facility operation. Other projects include commercial office space, educational facilities infrastructure replacements, and food service facilities.

Mr. Igo and Mr. Bowers both have strong backgrounds in the energy field. Selection of efficient systems and implementation of control strategies that minimize energy use are key elements in our design process. This approach gives our clients cost effective, easily maintainable systems without sacrificing occupant comfort or business operations.

Principals of the Firm

Thomas E. Igo, PE, President

Mechanical Engineer

Thomas Igo has been working in the consulting engineering field for more than 23 years. Prior to forming DesignTech, Mr. Igo was a Principal at Encon Group Inc. (EGI). At EGI, Mr. Igo was responsible for overseeing the work of a team of engineers and designers working primarily on the design of telecommunications and data processing facilities. During his tenure at EGI, the company’s total sales revenue increased three-fold.

Prior to joining EGI, Mr. Igo worked for eight years at SME Consulting Engineers, starting as a Project Engineer and rising to the position of Mechanical Department Manager. His responsibilities there included mechanical system design; project management; assignment, scheduling, supervision, and review of mechanical engineers and designers; marketing; and long-range business planning.

Mr. Igo's experience involved extensive retrofit design work, as well as new construction of telecommunications projects, including all aspects of systems design for critical switching facilities; data centers; health care facilities; institutional work; college campus utility distribution systems; commercial office space; and light industrial buildings.

From 1986 to 1989, Mr. Igo worked at Shooshanian Engineering Associates (SEA), a 120-person consulting firm in Boston, Massachusetts. At SEA, Mr. Igo was the Mechanical Project Engineer on a 14-man, multi-disciplinary design team. His responsibilities included systems design, both retrofit and new, contact with clients and staff supervision. His projects included a wide variety of facilities, including office buildings, schools, housing complexes, institutional work, research labs, animal care facilities and data centers.

Mr. Igo began his career as a Mechanical Designer in 1980 at Energy Services and Management Corporation (ES&M) in Boston, and left in 1986, a Project Engineer. His projects--large commercial buildings, speculative office space, institutional work and multi-unit housing-- included extensive retrofit work aimed at reducing energy costs, as well as systems designs for new construction.

Mr. Igo received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1983 from Northeastern University in Boston. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Maryland. He is an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers.

Matthew D. Bowers, PE, VicePresident

Electrical Engineer

Mr. Bowers contributes 23 years of experience in electrical systems design and project management to DesignTech. Immediately prior to partnering with Mr. Igo in starting DesignTech, he was the chief electrical engineer and a Principal at Encon Group Inc. At EGI Mr. Bowers was responsible for developing the electrical design standards, creating conceptual design concepts for all projects, supervising all electrical design work, and participating in business development activities.

Mr. Bowers began developing his skills in 1978 at Engineers Incorporated and a few years later at E. P. Mahard, Inc., two small Boston area firms, specializing in the design of health care facilities, retail department stores, and shopping malls. At the same time, he attended school and in 1985, received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University.

In 1985, armed with a Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University, Mr. Bowers joined the firm of Shooshanian Engineering Associates in Boston as an Electrical Project Engineer. His responsibilities included all aspects of electrical design, from initial conceptualization through construction supervision, for both new construction and renovation projects. These projects included the Brandeis University Sports Complex, several buildings for the Mitre Corporation, Massachusetts College of Art and the Smith College chiller plant.

At EUA Cogenex, a Massachusetts based energy services company, Mr. Bowers provided project management, supervision of design and implementation of large energy conservation projects for clients including Lockheed Martin, Allied Signal, and Kodak. He served at EUA from 1993 to 1996. His responsibilities included project management, procurement of materials and services, and customer interface as well as engineering, savings calculations, and systems evaluations to determine the economic viability of projects.

Mr. Bowers joined SME Consulting Engineers in Rockville, MD in 1996 as a Senior Electrical Engineer and Project Manager. At SME he provided electrical engineering services and project management for a variety of clients including telecommunications facilities, emergency generator power installations, uninterruptible power supplies and switch-gear replacement.

Mr. Bowers' professional affiliations include the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Illuminating Engineering Society. Mr. Bowers is a registered Professional Engineer in Arizona, Colorado, District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin.
